Speaker Bio
Tim Sweeney is an architect and the Founder and CEO of Simplus Systems, where he leads the development of high-performance, climate-resilient building systems focused on real-world delivery. He is a Certified Passive House Designer (iPHA) with decades of experience integrating energy efficiency, constructability, and durability in residential and small-scale multifamily projects.
Tim is the inventor of the patent-pending Simplus Building System, which combines prefabricated magnesium oxide (MgO) structural insulated panels with Passive House design principles to deliver buildings that are faster to construct, highly fire-resistant, and dramatically more energy efficient. His work emphasizes practical solutions to climate risk—particularly wildfire, seismic, and extreme weather—while maintaining affordability and scalability.
Current projects include post-disaster rebuilds and high-risk residential prototypes in California and the western U.S., where Tim collaborates closely with builders, engineers, manufacturers, and homeowners to translate performance modeling into buildable systems. His approach bridges design and construction, focusing on reducing embodied and operational carbon while shortening construction timelines and simplifying on-site labor.
Through his work, Tim aims to demonstrate how integrated design, prefabrication, and cross-disciplinary collaboration can accelerate climate-resilient housing at multiple scales—from individual homes to repeatable community models.
