Speaker Bio
Dr. Peter S. Fiske is a seasoned executive and technology leader with over two decades of experience driving innovation across the water, renewable energy, defense, and natural resources sectors. He has successfully commercialized breakthrough technologies—including Reactive Atom Plasma (RAP) processing for optics and semiconductors, and biomimicry-inspired fluid mixing and process control systems (PAX Water). In addition to his operating roles, Peter has served as a board member, advisor, and investor to more than a dozen early-stage technology companies, with two successful exits in the water sector: PAX Water (2017) and Fontus Blue (2025). As Executive Director of the National Alliance for Water Innovation (NAWI), Peter led a nationwide team of scientists, engineers, and innovators from top universities, national labs, and companies to secure and implement the U.S. Department of Energy’s $110M Energy-Water Desalination Hub. Under his leadership, NAWI launched more than 60 transformative research and technology development projects focused on advanced desalination, water reuse, resource recovery, and energy-water optimization. Following the successful renewal of NAWI’s funding with a $75M award in 2024, Peter transitioned to the role of Engagement and Technology Transitions Manager, where he now works to accelerate the adoption and commercialization of NAWI-supported technologies across the water industry. Previously, as CEO of PAX Water Technologies (2009–2017), Peter led the company through a period of rapid growth and product innovation, delivering high-margin process control solutions to the municipal water market. Despite operating in a cost-sensitive industry, PAX consistently grew profits >20% annually, won multiple awards for design and branding, and was acquired in a successful all-cash transaction. Beyond his leadership in technology development and commercialization, Peter is a nationally recognized speaker and author on innovation, entrepreneurship, and career strategy for scientists and engineers. He has contributed regularly to Nature, Science, and New Scientist, and is the author of Put Your Science to WORK!, one of the most widely used career strategy guides for early-career researchers. He has delivered his acclaimed workshops and keynote lectures to more than 25,000 scientists and engineers at institutions including MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Caltech.
