Pingbo Tang is an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, where he leads the Human–Machine–Human Intelligence Lab. His research develops co-adaptive human–AI systems, digital twins, and sensing technologies that improve safety, resilience, and resource efficiency across modular construction, water and wastewater systems, microreactors, airports, and heavy-duty vehicle fleets. Tang’s work on as-built BIM from 3D imaging, automated condition assessment, and human reliability modeling has shaped global practice in data-centric construction and infrastructure management, supported by more than 12 million USD in funding from NSF, U.S. DOT, DOE, NASA, and industry partners. He has authored over 60 journal papers and 100 conference publications and serves as Associate Editor of ASCE’s Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering and founding editor of Developments in the Built Environment. Tang is a Board member of the Engineers Society of Western Pennsylvania.
