Paul Raftery is a Professional Researcher at the Center for the Built Environment at UC Berkeley. He has a PhD in Engineering from University of Galway, Ireland for developing a new method for calibrating building energy models to detailed measured data, and a Mech Eng degree from Munster Technical University. Paul has 20 years of hands-on experience in HVAC engineering, building automation systems and controls, full-scale laboratory and field testing of HVAC equipment, and new technology development. He is a Fulbright Fellow and an active member of ASHRAE. He has served as a Principal Investigator on several large, multi-year research projects on topics such as commercial building controls, hydronic heating systems, heat pumps, radiant systems and ceiling fans funded by the California Energy Commission and the Department of Energy.
