Equal parts information and inspiration, this session will present a unique framework for landscape architects and urban designers to engage more deeply with climate change in their built work. The co-presenters will focus on distinct strategies and applied tactics for maximizing on-site carbon sequestration throughout all phases of a typical design process. The speakers will focus on four primary strategies – 1) preserving undeveloped land, 2) maximizing carbon uptake with plant material, 3) increasing soil organic carbon, and 4) regenerating natural carbon sinks. Presenters will share findings from recent research alongside examples of built projects that illustrate novel approaches to carbon sequestration in the built environment.
