The climate is changing, and across the globe people are already experiencing its impacts. Extreme heat events, intense droughts, rising sea levels, and severe wildfires all serve as reminders that the time to act on climate change is now – and nature has a key role to play in supporting this action. Science from The Nature Conservancy and others shows that conserving, restoring, and carefully stewarding our natural lands and ecosystems could provide nearly a third of the emissions reductions needed to limit global temperature increases and avoid the most catastrophic climate outcomes. These nature-based climate solutions also provide additional benefits for people and nature, such as cleaner air and water. In this session, Sydney will introduce nature-based climate solutions and illustrate how they can be used to support communities where people and nature thrive together.
