Dr. Luis Baquerizo earned his PhD in Materials Science, specializing in Cement and Concrete, at EPFL in Switzerland, under the guidance of renowned researchers, Professors KarenScrivener and Thomas Matschei. He spent nearly a decade at Holcim and Lafarge in Switzerland and France, holding various roles as an R&D scientist and team manager. In 2020, he moved to Cementos Pacasmayo, a leading cement and concrete producer in Peru, where he served as Head of R&D. In 2023, he joined Sublime Systems as Head of Product R&D, leading a team of approximately 12 researchers and technicians dedicated to validating and enhancing Sublime Systems' decarbonized cement. In 2024, he moved to CalPortland, where he currently serves as Director of the Central Research Laboratory, focusing on decarbonization and the development of high value-added products and solutions. Through these extensive professional experiences, Dr. Baquerizo developed significant expertise in fundamental cement chemistry, new product development, concrete field applications and sustainable construction.
