Olivier Sommerhalder is a Los Angeles–based design director, and a global design resilience director at Gensler, bringing deep design and technical expertise across a broad range of market sectors. Grounded in a belief that research, technology, and performance-driven design are catalysts for progressive architecture, he champions a rigorous, holistic design process that results in contextually responsive solutions. He has led the design of complex mixed-use, residential, arts and culture and life sciences projects for clients in the U.S., South America, Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.

A recognized knowledge leader within the firm, Olivier has played a key role in advancing research and development in building science and emerging market trends. Olivier holds a Master of Architecture from SCI-Arc and degrees in architecture and design culture from the University of Applied Sciences in Zurich and has served as a visiting critic and guest lecturer at leading architecture programs worldwide.
