Gail Brager holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and is a Distinguished Professor of Architecture at UC Berkeley in their Building Science, Technology & Sustainability program. She is also the Director of the Center for the Built Environment (CBE), an industry/university collaborative research center with approximately 50 diverse partners from the building industry. Since joining the faculty in 1984, Gail remains passionate about teaching and conducting applied research to minimize energy consumption while enhancing indoor environmental quality and occupant experience. Gail holds other University administrative positions as the Director of the Center for Environmental Design Research and Associate Dean of UC Berkeley’s Graduate Division. She is also honored to be a new Board member of USGBC-CA. Along with Professor Richard de Dear, Professor Brager developed the adaptive thermal comfort model, which was incorporated into ASHRAE Std 55. More recently, Gail co-authored the book Experiential Design Schemas with Prof Mark DeKay, intersecting building and health sciences with architectural design and aimed at expanding the joy and nature connections in buildings.
