Description
BioBased Building Materials land at the intersection of all of the critical buckets for materials: Climate Health, Human Health, Equity and Inclusion, Ecosystem Health and Circular Economy. They are also surprisingly resilient when integrated into a holistic approach to wildfire resilience, while contributing positively to climate action by storing carbon in buildings. In this session we’ll explore the roles and success stories of a variety of natural building systems—straw, hemp, bamboo, cork, and others—in both storing carbon in buildings and offsetting more common carbon emitting materials. Together these point a path to a future where buildings can become the Earth’s sixth carbon sink and stand as comfortable, resilient shelter against wildfires and other impacts of climate change.
