An accomplished specialist in pavement foundations and drainage standards, and led research and specification updates for pavement bases, subbases, soil stabilisation, and subsurface drainage. His expertise encompasses geotechnical investigations, performance evaluation of filter fabrics, and studies on soil behaviour under changing moisture conditions, including liquefaction and swelling. He has contributed to national and state technical advisory panels, including the National Road Research Alliance Geotechnical Team, FHWA Sustainable Pavement Technical Working Group, and several NCHRP projects, as well as serving as a standing member for the TRB Standing Committee on Pavement Foundations. His technical leadership in pavement environmental life cycle assessment (LCA) has shaped development of web-based environmental impact assessment tool eLCAP in collaboration with the University of California Pavement Research Centre and Caltrans.
