Design and Construction is paying more attention to the impact of supply chains. As we look at how communities, natural habitats, and project timelines are impacted by our material palettes and specifications, material re-use presents an opportunity to mitigate harm and connect to the history of a place. Our panelists will start by sharing the importance for material stewardship and its impacts on carbon emissions. Then, walk through the re-use of specific building materials and the things to keep in mind if you want to start including salvaged products in your projects. Then, zoom out and discuss how re-use can fit into larger sustainability and community-based narratives on projects happening now in Southern California.
